Who watches over you?

I have a hutch in my office where numerous “tchotchkies” are stuffed.

The other day I realized – Crispy Crab, has been my Patron Saint for the last six years. Before Crispy came into my life, I had a Wonder Woman doll. A co-worker gave it to me because she thought I worked “wonders” on the department I inherited that had a lot of problems. She also that it was a “wonder” that I was sane with the long hours I put in to make sure everything ran smoothly and we didn’t miss any government time-lines.

I wish I could report that I was smiling just like the crab this morning, but I cannot. In my estimation, one of the best parts of my job is the traveling I get to do. Usually I travel every other week from February thru the second week of September. By this time of year I should have been on the road for a total of 30 days or 6 weeks, perhaps a bit longer.

So far, I have been out of the office for two weeks. But, I knew that once everyone else got back from their “courtesy” calls, I’d be on the road training on our newly released marketing program, conducting the National Seminar and leading the Regional Training Seminars.

However today I was informed a co-worker closer to some of the accounts will be making some of those training calls. I’ve just lost another 3 weeks of travel. To places and customers I really enjoy.

I’m trying to find a silver lining to all of this … but it’s difficult. I guess by default that means I can spend more time working on my writing and cooking. And although I love both of those activities very much it’s a small comfort. I’m glad it’s a grey cloudy day outside. It suits my mood perfectly.

There's a somebody I'm longing to see
I hope that she turns out to be
Someone who'll watch over me

I'm a little lamb who's lost in a wood
I know I could always be good
To one who'll watch over me

Although she may not the girl some men think of
As handsome to my heart
She carries the key

Won't you tell her please to put on some speed
Follow my lead, oh how I need
Someone to watch over me
Someone to watch over me
-George & Ira Gershwin

Alacrityfitz,

One of my FAVORITE songs of ALL TIME. Especially the version by Elle Fitzgerald.

Speaking of speed - and leading ... WHEN DO YOU COME SOUTH AGAIN? Not like I'm anxious or anything ;)
