The Amazing Binooby Pashema

When I went to Wales last year, my friend Binooby gave me this great Pashmina/Scarf/Shawl/Dress-up-Your-Turtleneck-Accessory thing.

As you can see the colors are lavender, and maroon, and purple ... I wore it with EVERYTHING last spring when it was still cool. It add a splash of color to my blue jean and turtle neck ensembles and it kept me warm in two different ways. Physically when it was snug around my neck and when I thought about my friend.

Now that it's winter here in NC, it's rotated back into my wardrobe. Last week I jauntily wrapped it around my neck and headed out the door to Hot Sauce's car ... with a cup of coffee. It's finally become cold enough that Hot Sauce has rescinded the "no rain, no top" edict in the Miata but I still wear my leather gloves on our commute. Only sometimes - the fingers of the gloves cut off the circulation in my hand. So as we were rocketing down the road, I removed a glove ... while holding my hot, very full, coffee cup.

A few minutes later the blood was re-circulating through my fingers and they got cold again.

So, because I am B-R-I-L-I-A-N-T ... I tried to put my glove back on ... one-handedly. OF COURSE, when you do STUPID THINGS ... you pay for it.

Slosh went the coffee - all over one end of the Pashmina/Scarf/Shawl/Dress-up-Your-Turtleneck-Accessory. There was no way to blot the stain, and by the time I got to the office, it had dried. *sigh* All day long as I sat at my desk, I'd catch a whiff of coffee smell and it drove me SO CRAZY, I took it off and hung it up. At the end of the day I brought it home and threw it on the back of my "hat-rack/coat-tree/dinning room table" chair.

This weekend when I did laundry, I figured I'd better soak the scarf, then gently hand launder it.

That's when I discovered HOW AMAZING it really is.

I CANNOT FIND THE STAIN ANYWHERE!!!

At first, I thought maybe it was because I was in crapy light. So I walked into a different room. Still no visible stain.

Then I turned on the BLINDINGLY BRIGHT ceiling light (that I hate with a passion). Same result. NO STAIN.

THEN I WAKED OUTSIDE into the North Carolina sunshine.

NO STAIN!

I have decided this is my most FAVORITE piece of clothing E-V-A-H!

I might like it even better than my Dad's old paint-stained and patched workshirt that I wear.

And my former boss' (very baggy on me) slightly ripped J.Petterman canvas buttondown shirt.

And my bother's adolscent gold and white terry-cloth robe that I nicked when I moved to Arizona. (or maybe even before that, as he'd been long gone from our house when I moved.)

So - Ms. Binooby - thank you, thank you, thank you AGAIN for the lovely gift.

(ps: Photo credit C.H. Paquette Photography. (and arm in this picture is not Binooby's))

I brought several pashmina scarves back from Bahrain, and all were received with oohs and aahs.

Wow...I would never have thought of washing it. The Dry Cleaner would have not done that so efficiently. And the story made my stomach hurt because I also do things like that one-handed attempt. With disastrous results.

I once got this white gauzy skirt stuck in my bicycle chain. Got grease all over it. So I took it home, put it in the kitchen sink and lathered it with dish detergent. The stain was gone within the hour.

There's no greater sense of accomplishment. I salute you.

I too am of the "Damn it now I HAVE to go to the dry cleaners" ilk. Bravo to you for having enough faith in yourself to even know how to deal with it.
