My life ….

(Or eeek! It’s a whirlwind!)

On Sunday, when I got home from my writing critique group, there was the most gorgeous black Ferrari in front of my house .... I stared at it as I pulled in the drive way ... I was drooling actually. Then I walked in my house - and realized my G-Mail IM is going crazy ... seems a very young friend of mine from Dallas Texas is on his way here AT THIS VERY MOMENT!! He’s undertaken this project to “sofa-surf” across the US. We’ve been talking for about a month about my schedule. In one of our last conversations he said, “You’re number 3 on the list. Don’t worry; I’ll give you some advance warning. I guess when you’re 21 sending an e-mail from Athens, Georgia saying you’ll be in town 6 hours later IS advancing warning. Or maybe I was to interpret that since he left Texas on Thursday and I was his 3rd stop … OBVIOUSLY I should expect him on Sunday. Knowing he comes from a family of means, I'm wondering if it's HIS car out in front of the house?? And I'm freaking out because I was in the middle of dusting before I went to my Writing Critique group... and my house is in SHAMBLES ... and OMG ... IS THAT HIS CAR??? Then my house phone starts to ring ... and I'm trying to find my house phone, because I don't know where it is ... and there are like 30 messages on my machine (but they're not all new ... it's just that I don't listen to my machine) ... and I can't see if he tried to call my cell because it is dead - (and it doesn't get reception) here at the house anyway ... As I hear the message it’s a mutual friend telling me Max is on his way – and trying to get in touch with me. Then he says, give him a call. Or you might wake up in the morning with him on your front porch! Like a mad woman, I'm trying to dial Max’s number. Of course first I have to dial the access number for long distance, then my security code, and finally Max’s number. You know me and numbers - and I keep dialing the number wrong .... I am just about to lose it - and then get it all together and reach him. We have horrible reception - and he wants to know "Who is this?" (because my number comes up as "unknown") .... anyway - he's leaving Athens - and headed here - will be here about 10:30 Sunday night he estimates. I get back to my cleaning and toss all thoughts of beginning my new regime of “early to bed-early to write” out the door.

Next thing I know, he calls again to say he’s stopping in Charlotte to visit another friend. He'll just crash on her couch … and see me Monday. I think *whew* I can chill a little bit ... but decide to finish all my housework even though I am tired and don’t have my homework done for class on Tuesday night. Then I start thinking about his time table, and the gang who’s showing up on Friday! What if he plans to stay longer? My house is only so big … and, and, I don’t know … a bunch of 30 and 40-somethings and a 21 year old? He’ll be bored out of his mind, won’t he?

The next message comes around 10:30. No room at the “Inn” in Charlotte, so he’s heading my way. I try to get some sleep – and finally doze off around 1:30 am. Only to awaken to the phone ringing at 3:00 am. He’s here – at the corner – but WHICH driveway is mine??

So – we’ve had a wonderful visit. I’ve gone to work each day – and he’s done his thing. It’s nice to come home to a “roommate” at the end of a long day. (And let me tell you, I’ve gone through two weeks in the last two days at the office). Last night I cooked dinner. We talked about Quantum Physics, Schroeder's Cat, Language Generation, Trading Futures, and Gambling Strategies just to name a few of the topics. Tomorrow he’ll leave and head towards Pennsylvania – and some friends at who attend Brandis. I on the other hand will get ready for round two of entertaining!

I don't know who it belonged to .. but I seriously thought about putting a note on it that said, "Will cook a gourmet meal for ride" ... lol ...

See, now you know my weakness - fast cars.
